With the World Cup just around the corner, there’s never been a better time to get your garden ready for a summer of football. Whether you have a sprawling lawn or something more compact, the right setup means the kids can head outside the morning after a match and recreate the best goals or their favourite bit of skill.

This guide covers exactly what you need to turn your outdoor space into a serious football zone for this summer’s tournament.

Start with a Proper Goal

A good goal is the heart of any garden setup. The right size depends on who’s going to be using it and how big your garden is. Younger children will be happy with a smaller pop-up goal that is quick to set up and easy to move around. Older kids and adults may want something with more presence, depending on how much space you have.

Most QUICKPLAY goals are designed to be set up in no time, without tools, so there’s no fiddling around for ages while the kids are already itching to play. Look for one with a weighted base or ground pegs if you are using it on grass, or rubber feet for hard surfaces like patios and drives. You can add weights or sandbags to keep them firmly planted.

Add a Rebounder - and Watch the Skills Improve

A rebounder is genuinely one of the most useful bits of kit you can add to any garden setup, especially for solo sessions. It returns the ball straight back to the player, teeing up shots and volleys like a one-two with a training partner.

If Kane or Bellingham score a worldie, the kids will wake up the next day looking to recreate it. A rebounder and a bit of space are all they need to spend an hour working out the technique.

QUICKPLAY rebounders come in different sizes and tension levels, from lighter junior versions to heavy-duty frames that handle powerful shots from older players. A rebounder and a goal together are the classic combination for a complete garden setup.

Training Aids: Cones, Targets, and More

Once you have the goal and rebounder sorted, a few simple training aids make the garden feel like a proper training ground. Marker cones are affordable, virtually indestructible, and endlessly versatile - use them for dribbling runs, shooting channels, or just to mark out a playing area.

You can even add an RXTR Pro Coach rebounder board and reaction light and cognitive cones to your setup and turn your back garden into a solo skills training zone. All you need is a ‘10x’10 space.

Finishing targets are another favourite. Target Rings attach to the corners of the goal for KICKSTER, while Target Nets are made to fit rigid goals, and give young players something specific to aim at, turning every shot into a mini challenge. Great for keeping practice sessions fun rather than repetitive.

The Late Kick-Off: What It Means for Garden Football

England's group games kick off at 9pm, with other matches starting at 11pm, and some as late as 2am, which means most younger kids will be in bed before halftime or even before the action begins. That makes those morning and afternoon garden session all the more important.

For adults and older kids who stay up for the full game, the halftime kickabout is still just about on as it falls when it is still just about light outside, so there’s still a chance for a quick shoot-out before the second half!

This is where QUICKPLAY convenience kicks in. Our portable goals from KICKSTERs through to Q-FOLDs pack away and reset in no time, so even if you decide not to leave your garden setup out all week, you can pack down and tidy away in minutes.
