Youdan Trophy LogoHere at Quickplay Sport we are very proud of our Sheffield roots and we are always seeking opportunities to give back to the local community mainly by encouraging young people to become active, and engaged with sport.

One such initiative and one we are delighted to be part of is the agreement to become a partner in the 2016 Youdan Trophy, one of the fastest growing grassroots football competitions in the world.

The event which is to be held in Sheffield, brings together some of the most prestigious teams from world football to compete right on our doorstep. This is the perfect opportunity for us as a company to assist and encourage everyone who is in anyway interested in grassroots football. Sport has a wonderful capacity to bring people together, and with football products being our main business focus, this was exactly the type of event we want to be associated with.

Everyone knows that Sheffield is the birthplace of football, the home of the world’s first football club not to mention 2 professional clubs and a passionate city of football supporters, as a local company it makes perfect sense for us to be involved with an event of this magnitude and importance.

The Youdan Trophy will allow the young players to gain valuable experience and exposure, but it will also give the coaching staff a chance to test their skills against opposition from different countries. And with Keith Hackett being closely involved in the project, it also ensures that referees are able to gain some advice and experience as well. Without referees grassroots football wouldn’t be possible, and so the educational aspect of this tournament really matches our company ethos.

Football is so much more than just a sport. It is a way of celebrating friendship and diversity, creating opportunities to learn, and generally having fun. These are just some of the aims of the Youdan Trophy which is now entering it’s second year, and has quadrupled in size.

This event is more than just a football tournament; it is a footballing extravaganza for fans, players, coaches and referees. The event takes place between the 1st and 5th of August, with two separate but world-class facilities for the Under 16 and Under 14 competitions. For the Under 16 competition, the games will take place at the Sports Park of Sheffield Hallam University. The Under 14 venue is the Warminster Road facility of the University of Sheffield.

Keith HackettIn addition to the sports and educational aspects of the tournament, the organisers are also proud to incorporate a charity aspect, further emphasising the importance of giving back to the local community. This year the Youdan Trophy is proud to support The Children’s Hospital Charity. Amongst other events taking place to raise funds for the charity the biggest event will be the sporting dinner, which will take place on Thursday 14th July.

The draw for the competition was made on the 19th May by John Hartson ( Ex professional footballer and TV pundit) and MIchael Appleton ( the current manager of Oxford United). It is almost unbelievable how quickly this event has grown. The draw was streamed live across the world, and some of the teams involved this year, include Rodenberg, Everton, Seattle Sounders and Newcastle United.

The organisers are very proud that the event is based in Sheffield, which is of course the recognised birthplace of football. Keith Hackett director of the tournament organisers said “ The Youdan Trophy is set to become the biggest and most prestigious tournament of its kind in the whole of Europe, and we’re confident it will become a globally recognizable Sheffield brand, in the coming months and years”
